The thesis
Every class of traffic that mattered earned a layer in front of it. SQL never did.
Web pages got a CDN. APIs got a gateway. Name resolution got anycast resolvers. Each of them arrived the same way — something on the path that answers the repetitive, records the traffic, and gives you one place to set policy.
SQL is the exception, and it always has been. Queries still go straight to origin, every time, from every client. Which was survivable while a query had an author, and stopped being survivable when it didn’t.
Cloudflare didn’t make the web faster by rewriting websites. It put something on the path. That is the whole idea, applied to the one place nobody applied it.

Name the limits
The most persuasive things we can say are the ones that concede something. Where a measurement is thin, we say how thin.
Nothing hard to undo
Integration is a hostname. So is leaving. We would rather be easy to leave than hard to evaluate.
